Ignoring after-care can result in infections or permanent skin damage!

During the tattooing the skin breaks, this creates a wound. If you take good care of your tattoo it will take about 4 to 6 weeks for the wound to heal. Your tattoo can show scabs during this process, this is considered normal. Do not peel scabs off of your tattoo!

If the tattoo is covered with household foil, you can remove this after 3 to 5 hours.

If the tattoo is covered with second skin, you can remove this after 24 hours and within 48 hours.

You can shower with a fresh tattoo but not too hot or too long. It’s best to avoid conventional soaps or shampoos during the first few days. Unicura soap or similar neutral soaps can be used as long as they don’t contain alchohol, perfume or other damaging chemicals.

Treat the uncovered tattoo as following:

  • Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo

  • Wash the tattoo with a mild neutral soap

  • After washing, dab the tattoo dry with a clean (paper)towel

  • Rub the cream that you get recommended by the artist slowly into the tattoo. (common creams include Bepanthen or vegan coconut butter)

Make sure you do the following during the healing process:

  • Avoid touching your fresh tattoo. (Wash your hands first)

  • Avoid a thick layer of cream. Apply thin layer and wait 10/15 minutes for the cream to absorb into the skin before covering with clothing

  • Do not scratch your fresh tattoo

  • Do not cover your fresh tattoo with tight clothing, foil or medical bandaids

  • Avoid baths and any sport activity that makes you sweat for at least 2 weeks.

  • Don’t expose your fresh tattoo to sunlight or sunbathing.

  • The tattooed skin stays sensitive to sunlight even after healing. Make sure you always apply sun block AFTER the tattoo is healed.

Following these instructions will give your tattoo the best chance of healing correctly. If instructions are not followed correctly, a touch-up could be necessary in order to correct the healed result.

PAY ATTENTION: Contact your doctor and tattoo artist if you experience the following symptoms:

  • Extreme red skin on or around the tattoo after removal of second skin or foil

  • Swelling, pus, excessive bleeding or wound fluid on or around the tattoo

  • Color changing or chronic pain on or around tattoo area
